Agni & Soma
Enrich your yoga practice through softer, receptive attitude of the ancient teachings of Agni, the sun and Soma, the moon.
I often see teachings and practices of Ayurveda explained and simplified as if separate from other yogic practices. Ayurveda being a simple set of health tips and yoga practice being a simple set of physical exercise.
But in fact, these two are inseparable and enriches both practices and teachings.
Understanding the concept of Agni and Soma, it speaks directly to what I believe in for a yoga practice: Having the receptive attitude of listening, observing, being patient with what we do and say brings up what we need to the surface.
Our modern society and lifestyle has been bombarding us with what we should and shouldn’t do, anything from exercise to food. One day, eggs are superfood, the next day they are balls of cholesterol.
We swing from one thing to another, latest fad diet and we forget that things are not so black and white, nor permanent. This brings another one of my belief:
We are different, living different lifestyles in different locations or climates, AND on the same planet. We have some similarities in each of us but we also have undeniable uniqueness.
What may be good for me may not necessarily be good for you.
So in this video, I would like to invite you in our journey of self-inquiry and reflection through the world of Agni and Soma.
Learning to trust the feminine and masculine within
Modern cultures have a tendency to think in binary: either/or. You’re either with me or against me. This practice or it’s not yoga.
Ancient teachings are full of contradictions, and that is because yogic teachings are based on the fact that we are all the same and slightly different. The teachings naturally respect the non-binary, spectrum thinking of “and/both.”
It allows us to receive the teachings, go back home and reflect.
Yogic teachings also use spectrum thinking of “and/both” by teaching us that, regardless of our genders, we are beings both feminine and masculine, sun and moon, dark and light.
Yes, modern culture is filled with masculine qualities but it does not mean we need to squash and forget the masculinity. If we only respect our feminine side only, we would be facing a problem as well.
So the answer here, that the ancient yogic teachings provide, is to listen, deep within, for what is needed now for each one of us.
This is the reason why this Agni & Soma course is not about me telling you what to do. It is a prompt for your self-inquiry.

Details
- I will be providing the course video and Agni questionnaire through the Email you provide at the time of your purchase
- You will notice that the course video is in bilingual. I debated whether to separate two languages. But this multi-language, multiculturalism reflects our every day life and certain my yoga classes and workshops. I have always been a part of multiculturalism wherever I teach yoga. I believe it opens up our visions and certainly our minds. Our conversations are richer because of this. So I have decided to leave our course video flowing with questions in both English and Japanese.
- On related note, when this class was held in live, the participants were of multiple different religious and spiritual beliefs, which is often the case in my classes. Even though I utter and chant Sanskrit words with Hindu meanings, it does not mean that this teaching is not inclusive. I believe that Agni & Soma online course is suitable for all backgrounds. That said, should there be errors on my side respecting this belief, please do let me know by Email.
- Another noteworthy thing is that this course is not meant to tell you what to do. Although I studied Ayurveda extensively, I am not an Ayurvedic doctor. To become an Ayurvedic doctor in India it would take at least 4.5-5.5 years plus extensive supervised practice after graduation. It is not something I take lightly. This course is just a glimpse of an idea of Ayurveda and hope that it would be a prompt in your practice.
- Last thing, I do not provide extensive notes in this course. I used to sit at a front row, ready to take notes for every word my teacher spoke. But then she said, “stop taking notes, put your notebooks away. What you digest by being present stays on a cellular level.” And so, I suggest just that. My suggestion is to watch on the first go, from beginning to finish, without writing any notes. Then watch again, as you write down your reflections. Then go back to your practice to reflect again. Slow digestion goes a long way.

FAQs
This course is suitable for you if you are searching for a different kind of yoga practice or study.
Modern yoga scene has its benefits and flaws. In my time, exploring in many different countries, I’ve witnessed a lot of great teachers as well as extremely misleading/harmful teachers.
My students tend to lean towards an approach that is different from fast-paced, physical type of yoga lessons, and my practice and teachings are a lot more inwardly directed.
I also do not give much of answers as I had similar teachers who encourage self-inquiry than transactional information exchange. Although they do not give straight answers to my questions, they were always there with me to support my self-inquiry and reflection journey and I intend to do the same.
The course is a self-paced video format, delivered digitally, with no live component involved. On enrollment, I will receive an Email and I will send materials to you through the Email you had provided.
Content includes a roughly 1.2hour video as well as a questionnaire for you to work on.
This course was initially designed for my monthly yogic philosophy talks. My students often ask to videotape them so that they can rewatch and study for reflection purposes.
The materials, both video and a questionnaire are downloadable so you can continue to use the materials over and over as the seasons change or you have a different environment.
